Monoammonium phosphate (CAS 7722-76-1 ), commonly known as MAP or designated E342 in food applications, is an inorganic ammonium salt used industrially as a flame retardant and pH buffering agent. It delivers both nitrogen and phosphorus in a single compound, making it a practical input across agriculture, construction, and industrial processing. In agriculture, MAP is a high-analysis fertilizer applied directly to soil. It can be dissolved for fertigation, supplying phosphorus and nitrogen in plant-available form. Flame retardant formulations for textiles, paper, and cellulosic materials rely on MAP to interrupt combustion at the fiber level. This helps in meeting fire safety specifications in treated fabrics and packaging.
