In oil and gas, NaBr is a key component of high-density clear brine fluids used in wellbore completion and workover operations. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as an intermediate in the synthesis of active ingredients and sedative-class compounds. This is particularly important where a bromide counterion is required for the final chemical structure.
