Sodium bromide
Description
Sodium bromide (CAS 7647-15-6 ), commonly referenced as NaBr, is an inorganic bromide salt used across industrial and pharmaceutical sectors. It functions primarily as a bromide ion source, enabling its use in completion fluids and synthesis intermediates. In oil and gas, NaBr is a key component of high-density clear brine fluids used in wellbore completion and workover operations. Precise density control is critical in these applications to ensure safety and efficiency during drilling. Pharmaceutical manufacturers use it as an intermediate in the synthesis of active ingredients and sedative-class compounds. This is particularly important where a bromide counterion is required for the final chemical structure. In industrial water treatment and pool sanitation, it activates oxidizing biocides to control microbial growth in recirculating systems. This ensures that water remains clean and free from harmful biological contaminants. Flame retardant formulations for plastics and polymers incorporate NaBr as a bromine source. It acts as a precursor or synergist in halogenated retardant systems to improve the fire safety of various materials. Sodium bromide is supplied as a white crystalline powder or granules, and also in liquid solution form. These solutions are available at various concentrations suited specifically to oilfield brine applications. Standard grades include technical, pharmaceutical ( USP / BP ), and oilfield-grade, each with distinct purity requirements. Packaging ranges from bags and drums to bulk quantities for high-volume industrial users. Contact us for supply of Sodium bromide Request Quote
