Glyceryl caprylate caprate
Description
Glyceryl caprylate caprate (CAS 65381-09-1 ), commonly sourced and traded as MCT, is a mixed ester of glycerol with caprylic and capric fatty acids derived primarily from coconut or palm kernel oil. It functions as a carrier, emollient, and solubilizer across food, pharmaceutical, and personal care manufacturing. In nutritional supplements, MCT serves as a calorie-dense carrier oil for fat-soluble vitamins. It is also used for flavors and active ingredients requiring efficient dispersion. Pharmaceutical formulators use it as a lipid vehicle in soft-gel capsules, oral solutions, and topical drug delivery systems. This is particularly useful where a non-aqueous solvent with low viscosity is required. In personal care, it acts as a lightweight skin-conditioning base in serums, creams, and color cosmetics. It provides excellent spreadability without greasiness. Industrial lubricant applications include biodegradable base fluids and release agents where low toxicity and oxidative stability are procurement priorities. Glyceryl caprylate caprate is supplied as a clear, odorless liquid. Standard market grades include food-grade ( FCC ), pharmaceutical-grade ( USP /NF and Ph. Eur. ), and cosmetic or technical grades. These grades are designed to meet different regulatory requirements. Bulk supply is available in drums and IBC containers, with typical caprylic-to-capric ratios of 60:40 or 70:30 depending on specification.
