Isostearic acid
Description
Isostearic acid (CAS 2724-58-5 ), also known as isooctadecanoic acid, is a branched-chain C18 fatty acid derived primarily from the dimerization of oleic acid. Its branched structure prevents crystallization at low temperatures. This unique molecular structure makes it a preferred raw material where liquid-state performance across a wide temperature range is a procurement requirement. In lubricants and metalworking fluids, it functions as a friction modifier. It serves as an extreme-pressure additive component, improving film stability on metal surfaces. Personal care formulators use it as an emollient and emulsifier base in anhydrous systems such as lipsticks and skin creams. Hair conditioners benefit from its non-greasy skin feel and resistance to solidification. Coatings and alkyd resin manufacturers incorporate it to improve flexibility and adhesion in low-temperature environments. In adhesives and sealants, it acts as a plasticizing acid component that modifies rheology and enhances substrate wetting. Isostearic acid is supplied as a pale yellow to amber liquid for industrial use. It is available in technical and cosmetic grades, with cosmetic-grade material meeting purity and color specifications required for personal care applications. Bulk supply is standard in drums and ISO tank containers. Technical-grade product is also available for industrial lubricant and coating applications. This versatile fatty acid provides consistent performance across diverse chemical manufacturing sectors and global supply chains. Contact us for supply of Isostearic acid Request Quote
