Description

Isodecanol (CAS 25339-17-7 ), also supplied under the trade name Exxal 10 and commonly referred to as isodecyl alcohol, is a branched-chain fatty alcohol used as a solvent and plasticizer intermediate. Its branched structure makes it a preferred feedstock for producing plasticizers, surfactants, and lubricant additives where linear alcohols fall short on performance across multiple industrial sectors. In plastics processing, it is a key raw material for manufacturing isodecyl phthalate and other ester plasticizers used to flex PVC in cables, flooring, and film applications for durability. Coatings and adhesives formulators use it as a reactive diluent and coalescing solvent to control viscosity and film formation in industrial finishes and various high-performance surface treatments. Lubricant and metalworking fluid producers incorporate it into ester-based base stocks and additive packages that require controlled viscosity and oxidative stability during heavy industrial operations. In oil and gas applications, it functions as a carrier solvent in chemical injection systems and as a feedstock for oilfield surfactant synthesis to improve extraction and processing efficiency. Isodecanol is supplied as a clear liquid in bulk quantities including isotanks, flexitanks, and drummed formats. Technical grade is the standard commercial specification for industrial applications. Material is typically characterized by hydroxyl value, water content, and color specifications aligned with major producer standards to ensure consistent quality for all manufacturing requirements.
