Its dual calcium and magnesium content makes it a preferred choice over single-element neutralizers where soil or process chemistry demands both nutrients simultaneously. In agriculture, dolomite is applied to acidic soils to raise pH and correct magnesium deficiency, directly improving crop yields in magnesium-sensitive crops such as cereals and potatoes. Water treatment facilities use it to remineralize soft or desalinated water, restoring alkalinity and hardness to meet drinking water standards for municipal and industrial use. In construction, it serves as a filler and aggregate in asphalt, concrete, and road base materials, where consistent particle size and carbonate content are critical to specification compliance. Metallurgical operations use dolomite as a flux in steel and iron production to remove impurities during smelting. It is supplied as crushed stone, ground powder, and micronized grades.
