Description

Calcium stearate (CAS 1592-23-0 ), also known as calcium distearate, is a calcium soap of stearic acid used across plastics, rubber, pharmaceuticals, and construction materials. It functions primarily as a lubricant, release agent, and stabilizer, preventing adhesion, reducing friction, and controlling flow in solid processing systems. In PVC and polymer compounding, it acts as an internal and external lubricant, improving melt flow and preventing die buildup during extrusion and calendering. Pharmaceutical tablet manufacturers use it as a die lubricant and anti-caking agent to ensure consistent tablet weight and clean press release during the manufacturing process. In concrete and building products, it waterproofs cement mixes and improves workability without compromising structural integrity. Rubber processors incorporate it as a mold release agent. It also serves as a dispersing aid for fillers, reducing cycle times and improving surface finish on molded parts. Calcium stearate is supplied as a fine white powder. Particle size and bulk density vary by grade to suit different processing requirements. Food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade material is available, meeting USP and Ph. Eur. specifications. Technical-grade product is standard for plastics, rubber, and construction applications, where purity thresholds are less stringent for industrial manufacturing needs.
