Description

Methyl laurate (CAS 111-82-0 ), also sold as methyl dodecylate, is a fatty acid methyl ester derived from lauric acid used across personal care, food, and industrial lubricant markets. It functions as an emollient, emulsifier, and lubricant base, and carries FEMA 2715 status for flavoring applications. In personal care formulations, it acts as a lightweight emollient and carrier. It is used in skin creams, hair conditioners, and cleansing oils, offering good spreadability without heavy residue. Food and flavor manufacturers use it as a flavoring agent to impart coconut and fatty notes. It is commonly found in confectionery, dairy, and beverage products. Metalworking and industrial lubricant formulators incorporate it as a bio-based ester lubricant base fluid or additive for performance. Its ester structure provides film-forming properties suitable for cutting fluids and release agents. It also serves as a chemical intermediate in the production of surfactants, esters, and other oleochemical derivatives. Methyl laurate is supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid. It is available in technical grade for industrial and lubricant applications, and in food or flavor grade meeting purity standards. The material is available in grades appropriate for FEMA-listed use. Bulk supply is standard in drums and IBC containers, with cosmetic-grade material available from oleochemical producers.
