Description

Allyl glycidyl ether ( CAS 106-92-3 ), commonly abbreviated as AGE, is a bifunctional reactive monomer carrying both an epoxide and an allyl group. This dual reactivity allows it to bridge different polymerization chemistries. It is a valued building block in specialty polymer synthesis and surface modification applications. AGE is used as a reactive diluent and crosslinker in epoxy resin formulations, where it reduces viscosity. It remains chemically incorporated into the cured network rather than migrating out over time. In polymer modification, it introduces pendant allyl functionality onto epoxy backbones, enabling subsequent grafting. This allows for further crosslinking for coatings, adhesives, and sealants. Silicone and rubber compounders use AGE to compatibilize inorganic fillers or couple dissimilar polymer phases during production. This improves mechanical performance in the final vulcanizate. It also serves as a functional monomer in the production of ion-exchange resins and specialty hydrogels used in separation and filtration media. Allyl glycidyl ether is supplied as a clear liquid in standard drum and IBC quantities, with bulk tanker options available for larger volumes. Technical grade is the primary commercial specification. Purity levels are typically at 98% or higher for this material. Stabilized grades formulated to inhibit premature polymerization during storage and transport are also available from most producers.
